Principal's Message

Welcome to another exciting school year at I.S. 254! I’m Mr. Javier Ocampo, Sr., and I’m proud to serve as the principal of this amazing middle school community in the heart of the Bronx.

At I.S. 254, we believe in every student’s potential to grow, lead, and thrive. Our mission—We teach. We learn. We love.—guides everything we do, and our vision of educating and empowering individual thinkers to make an impact in the world comes to life each day through the passion of our students and staff.

We are a close-knit, vibrant immigrant community that values equity, innovation, inclusion, and a growth mindset. This year, our schoolwide focus is Growing Stronger Together, refining how we teach so that every child can deepen their learning and reach new heights.

We’re thrilled to introduce a new ELA curriculum (HMH Into Literature) and a math curriculum (i-Ready Math), as well as the construction of a state-of-the-art $3.5 million media center that will elevate learning for years to come.

Our afterschool partnership with ACDP continues to expand, while our sports teams including basketball, volleyball, baseball, and soccer are thriving and growing. With continued support from Brainpower Wellness and our arts programming, students have more ways than ever to shine academically, socially, and creatively.
